Special resins for the treatment of hooves DEMOTEC 90 and 95 are special resins that have been developed as expedient means for the treatment of laming cattle. Due to their outstanding quality and handy and convenient processing they are ideal problem solvers when treating diseases of the hooves. The newly developed DEMOTEC 95 is particularly characterised by its plasticity without being sticky and can be processed only a few seconds after mixing. A wooden block is bonded onto the good hoof by means of the synthetic material. By this added height to the good hoof, the affected one is relieved of the load and put at rest. This again relieves the pain and directly reduces laming. Preparing hoof The good hoof will, if required, be trimmed and cleared of dirt and loose hoof particles using hoof rasp or cutter. It will then be cleaned with spirit or alcohol, as we recommend, in order to improve bonding of the synthetic material onto the hoof. Having prepared the hoof as described above Demotec is directly applied. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Mixing and ratios This specialist resin consisting of powder and liquid is mixed at a weight ratio of approx. 5 : 3. Slight variations of this ratio do not markedly affect processing. To facilitate proper batching we have supplied a sufficient number of mixing beakers with relevant markings. In order to get proper batching we recommend the following procedure:
Processing Directly after mixing DEMOTEC 90 is still liquid. Approx. two minutes later it becomes pasty and can now be processed easily. Hoof sole and wood block are both now coated with a thick layer of DEMOTEC 90. Having pressed the wood block hard onto the hoof sole the surplus resin will be modelled over the sides of the hoof and the wood block. The circumferential groove of the wood block has to be filled properly with the material to provide good stability. After about 4 - 6 minutes DEMOTEC 90 will have set completely and when cold will withstand high loads. Due to a special combination of the ingredients DEMOTEC 90 in pasty aggregate can be modelled into any form required, almost without being sticky. It has been established that working with soapy hands, or hands coated with protective cream, prevents the material from sticking onto the skin. Removing the wood block When the infected hoof has been cured completely the wood block can be removed using a chisel or other cutting tool. Setting affected by temperature Often animals will have to be treated outdoors (e.g. in the field). Depending on the season there will be great variances as to the ambient temperatures, which affect processability and setting markedly. Times given for processability and setting in this information refer to an ambient temperature of 21°C. Temperatures lower than the set one will result in processability and setting being longer. Temperatures higher than the set one will result in processability and setting being shorter. As a rule of thumb we can say that at a temperature of e. g. 30°C processability and setting will be halved and at a temperature of only 10°C they will be doubled. Because of this it should be seen to it that the material is heated in winter and cooled in summer. General remarks Demotec should be stored in a cool and light shielded place. Bottles and containers should be closed well after use. Contents should be protected from impurities. Store in a place well protected from children. Observe warnings on the bottles properly.
