DIRECTIONS OF USE FOR DEMOTEC 95 back
Special resins for the treatment of hooves
DEMOTEC 95 is a special resin that has been developed as an expedient means for the treatment of laming cattle. Due to its outstanding quality and handy and convenient processing it is an ideal problem solver when treating diseases of the hooves. The newly developed DEMOTEC 95 is particularly characterised by its plasticity without being sticky and can be processed only a few seconds after mixing. Using the resin, a wooden block is bonded onto the good hoof by means of the synthetic material. By this added height to the good hoof, the affected one is relieved of the load and put at rest.
This again relieves the pain substantially and directly reduces laming.

Preparing hoof
The good hoof will, if required, be trimmed and cleared of dirt and loose hoof particles using hoof knife or angel cutter. It will then be cleaned with spirit or alcohol, as we recommend, in order to improve bonding of resin onto the hoof. Having prepared the hoof as described above Demotec is directly applied.
Mixing and Ratios
This specialist resin consisting of powder and liquid is mixed at a weight-ratio of
          2 : 1
For faciliating batching we have portioned the powder into 70 g bags.
  • Using the graduated vessel measure 35 ml liquid and pour it onto the PE-mixing beaker.
  • Pour the content of one bag (70 g powder) into the liquid.
  • Mix directly thoroughly and well.
Already after a few seconds you will get a putty-like homogenuous pasty mass.

NOTE!
This material is not liquid like DEMOTEC 90 and does not flow.
The material sticks quickly to the spatula when mixing - like the putty of a cake - and can be processed directly.

Processing
Directly after mixing DEMOTEC 95 has a well kneadable aggregate and can be modelled very easily without being sticky.
Processability lasts about 2 - 3 minutes. After 6 - 7 minutes the resin will have set completely. When cold it can withstand also very high loads.
We recommend to coat the prepared hoof directly with a thin layer of the resin to optimise bonding. After that the processable material can be applied at any required thickness with the spatula and can be modelled into any desired shape. The resin has to be modelled well around the sides of the hoof and the block into the circumferential groove of the block.
With proper batching the material can be processed easily without dripping and smearing.

Cleaning the PE-Mixing Beaker
The mixing beaker is intended to be used for several applications. Normally you will be able to take the mixed batch completely out of the beaker. Should there be, however, some residual resin left these should be left in the beaker to set. When set you will be able to remove it by slightly pressing the beaker.

Removing the Wood Block
When the infected hoof has been cured completely the wood block can be removed using a chisel or other cutting tool.

Setting Affected by Temperature
Often animals will have to be treated outdoors (e.g. in the field). Depending on the season there will be great variances as to the ambient temperatures, which affect processability and setting markedly. Times given for processability and setting in this information refer to an ambient temperature of 21°C. Temperatures lower will result in processability and setting being longer. Temperatures higher than the set one will result in processability and setting being shorter.
As a rule of thumb we can say that at a temperature of e. g. 30°C processability and setting will be halved and at a temperature of only 10°C they will be doubled. Because of this it should be seen to it that the resin is heated in winter and cooled in summer.

Other Applications
Apart from this application of the treatment of laming on cattle DEMOTEC 95 in particular, due to its direct processability without dripping and stickiness, has been well proven for putting pets' fractures in a splint.

General Remarks
Demotec should be stored in a cool and light shielded place.
Bottles should be closed well after use. Contents should be protected from impurities.
