DIRECTIONS OF USE FOR PRACTIC BOOT back
The solution for difficult cases in claw treatment.

Lameness is widespread in cattle and hoof problems can adversely affect both milk yields and weight gain, resulting in an economic loss of significant proportion.

Demotec, one of the world's leading manufacturers of products for hoof care, now indroduces an additional item of equipment, which allows the more effective use of treatments, previously limited in their application to animals that could be hospitalised.

This now gives the cow the greatest chance of making a total recovery from lameness, in the shortest possible time.

The Problem
Where there is infection and/or inflammation affecting both claws, the traditional treatment using the block system is not applicable; in the past, it has been neccessary on such occasions to amputate on claw, or even to slaughter the animal.

The Solution
The Solution is the PRACTIC BOOT, which makes it possible for the hoof to be kept clean and for treatment of the whole hoof to be undertaken with solutions of various types - as recommended by your veterinary surgeon.

For many years specialist literature has referred to the treatment of infections and inflammations of the hoof and joint areas, with warm disinfectant solutions, which have proven to be both efficacious and soothing. However, the application of such a treatment has, up to now, not been very practical.

Tests with the PRACTIC BOOT have shown that the use of "suds" (up to 60° c) has had a profoung and rapid effect, in the reduction of pain and a beneficial influence on the healing process.

After three days treatment (with two changes of "suds" a day) in many cases a remarkable reduction in lameness has been achieved, which allows further treatment with the pressure relieving block systems to be undertaken.

In some cases, when the conventional wooden block system is initially employed, the affected claw is so painful - even with the reduced pressure - that consideration should be given to placing the hoof (with the block on) into the PRACTIC BOOT for treatment.

Great attention has been paid to the design of the PRACTIC BOOT, which is big enough to fit most hooves (even with wooden blocks) as the boot has a wide and flexible opening - which is essential, especially with very sensitive claws.

Close liasion with both veterinary surgeons and hoof trimmers has enabled us to produce a product, with such demanding criteria.

Attention to anatomical detail was paramount in the boot's development, and to ensure that the boot fits correctly, two solid fixation strips ensure its safe and easy fixing.

The solutions are introduced and withdrawn from the boot, through an integrated tube by means of a syringe. This makes it possible to change the liquid very easy - without removing the boot.

It is recommended that the solutions is changed twice daily (this might be done during mikling) usually 200ml liquid is sufficient to guarantee complete moistening. After one day the claw should be examined to see if the treatment is having the desired effect and after three days the PRACTIC BOOT should be removed.

Usage Notes

1. Clean both claws, remove all loose and necrotic debris if possible.

2. Lift hoof - open the flexible top as far as possible and place over the hoof.

3. Loosely fix both fixation strips but do NOT tighten at this stage.

4. Put the hoof in the PRACTIC BOOT onto the ground, check the boot fits well - correct if necessary - now tighten the strips.

5. Introduce the liquid through the tube by means of the encluded syringe. 200ml = 2 fillings of the syringe in normally is sufficient to guarantee complete moistening. When changing the liquid - first remove the old liquid with a syringe, and then replace again, with fresh warm liquid in the same way.
  • When treatment is complete, remove the boot, clean thoroughly, disinfect and dry - the PRACTIC BOOT is then ready for use again.
  • If further pressure reducing treatment is necessary, we recommend the use of DEMOTEC 95 or EASY BLOC.
  • Solutions incorporating pharmaceuticals should only be used when recommended by, and unter the supersivion of your veterinary surgeon.
